The Year in Review: Social Media Roundup 2014

2014 is coming to a close and, in recognition of the developments in social media this past year, we’ve put together a comprehensive look at what changed, what was effective and which platforms got the majority of our attention.

Here’s a brief selection:

  • A significant 92% of marketers said that social media was important to their business. This was an increase from 86% in 2013, where only 49% strongly agreed and 37% agreed. While some may have guessed that social media business use would plateau in 2014, that was definitely not the case.

  • We were amazed to learn that Facebook’s monthly active users equals the population of the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th largest population countries in the world combined with 1.35 billion. The social networking site has 1.12 billion active mobile users and 864 million daily users.

  • Nearly ⅕ of marketers (19%) stated spending more than 20 hours per week on social media, while 64% stated 6 hours or more, and 37% used it for more than 11 hours.
