Tumblr for Business – Staying One Step Ahead

Is there room on Tumblr for my business?  Tumblr is a powerful tool for many businesses to showcase their products and gain traction with their followers.

This article is part of a six part series by Wishpond. This series will explore the business benefits of the social media platform, Tumblr, and how it can help your online marketing efforts.

Tumblr Sponsorship

Becoming a Tumblr sponsor can be a good way to take your page to the next step.  Tumblr sponsors is the only way Tumblr allows ads on people’s pages.

Furthermore, when Tumblr users choose to search for blogs in a certain category, a sponsored blog will show up right at the top (assuming your blog has something to do with the category).  Unfortunately, not everyone can become a sponsor; only blogs that Tumblr accepts as creative and innovative will be chosen.  If you think your blog stands out from the rest, Tumblr’s sponsorship page has a lot more sign-up information.

KPIs, ROIs, and Tumblr Analytics

An integral part of any marketing plan is tracking ROI’s.  Without solid knowledge of how to measure results, your business will not be able to achieve its goals.

Many companies have still not ventured very far into social media as a whole, much less Tumblr, because of a lack of understanding of social media ROIs.  When setting good ROI benchmarks, be sure to look at your company’s overall goals and objectives.

Here are five potential ROIs for your business:

  1. Attract new customers
  2. Engage with your current fanbase through quality content
  3. Demonstrate and promote your products
  4. Build long-term relationships with customers
  5. Increase sales

Key performance indicators can also be very useful when evaluating the effectiveness of your Tumblr blog.  Here are some example KPIs your company can observe.

5 Potential KPIs to track when Marketing on Tumblr:

  1. Total followers
  2. Number of reblogs
  3. Note to Post Ratio
  4. Breakdown of Post Type
  5. Ask to Answer Ratio

To measure some of these KPIs, a third-party application is necessary.  Many of the free options do not provide very much information, where the only paid option is very expensive, so find an option that best suits your company’s needs.

Unionmetrics is the official analytical platform for Tumblr, created by the same company that handled Twitter’s official analytics.  The statistics and analytical information provided by Unionreach’s software is very thorough, dwarfing the competition.  Unfortunately, access to these analytics requires a monthly subscription, and it is definitely not cheap.  If your company is still interested, they offer a 14-day plan for each of their plans.

Numblr is a free third party analytic website that scans through a tumblr user’s post history to create a somewhat detailed breakdown.  The speed of scanning is very slow and the information gathered is more limited, but it still provides some relevant information like note to post ratio, type of post breakdown, and percentage of original content.  Numblr also allows you to enter anyone’s Tumblr page to check their progress, which may be useful for benchmarking.

Tumblrstats is another free analysis tool, but it is very basic.  The only relevant statistics it provides is a detailed breakdown of your post-type and a chart of your posting frequency.  Still, it is very lightweight and completes their analysis very quickly.  Like Numblr, Tumblrstats can be used on anyone’s Tumblr page.

That concludes our series on Tumblr usage for businesses!  Thanks for keeping up with us!
